The Crew

Captain Indi Rooken-Smith
Indi grew up in the vibrant waters of South Africa's Southern Cape. As a kid he spent all of his free time surfing, fishing and spearfishing. By 13 he was a sponsored O'Neill team rider and enjoyed a successful competitive surfing career throughout his school and varsity years. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, finishing top of his class at the Nelson Mandela University in 2013. Following a short but exciting engineering career in diamond and gold prospecting and later machine design, his passion for the ocean won and pulled him into yachting. He started this new adventure on an Atlantic crossing in 2015 and kept sailing. Since then, he has Captained multiple sailing and motor vessels, doing charters and private excursions in the Caribbean, Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, US East Coast and Pacific Ocean. He is completely at home on the water, loves to sail and still takes every opportunity to surf great waves, kite board and spend time under water, freediving and treasure hunting the rich historical wrecks along South Africa's coastline. His deep respect for the ocean resonates with Acadia's active conservation and adventurous philosophy.
